Jang Keun-suk ain't vegetarian folks, but the method-actor (who has a tiny 27-inch waist) has been maintaining a herbivore-ish diet for the past month in preparation for his new movie role in You're My Pet, a Korean remake of the highly successful Japanese drama series, Kimi Wa Petto.
He's the latest Korean import to hit our sunny shores for his first official fan-meet session on Saturday. Jang is most known for his titular role as the mysophobic Hwang Tae-kyung in the 2009 household hit Korean drama series, You're Beautiful.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, when reporters asked Jang on the possibility of having a Singaporean girlfriend, the open-minded one believed that "nationality is not important" saying "there are no boundaries in terms of love."
The diehard-romantic within him was revealed when quizzed on his plans to introduce his "Singaporean girlfriend" to Korea. The heartthrob intends to bring her around Namsam tower, a popular sightseeing spot in Korea, and plans to "bring her home to cook for her" because "cooking is one of my hobbies."
I guess you can say that the old cliché saying -- the way to a man's heart is through his stomach -- still stands true, but in this case, a woman's heart.
In an interview with xinmsn, the 24-year-old confessed through his translator that it is "not difficult" to be on a veggies-only diet. With a tendency "to gain and lose weight easily," he explained that "dieting is not much of an issue to me."
"You should move or exercise as much as you eat. However, I'm not eating, and I'm not exercising," he sheepishly admitted.
Since going on a diet, Jang has "lost about 4 to 5kg." He still has another 3kg to go before hitting the ideal weight required for his role.
Lamenting to reporters, he said, "For the past month, I have been eating only vegetables and the biggest thing I had was shrimp pancake."
No wonder the deprived one could not stop harping on wanting to try our famed "black pepper crabs" and "tiger prawns." It seems like this visit to Singapore might just thwart his plans to lose the elusive three kilograms. He was sighted dining at Long Beach restaurant in Dempsey after the fan-meet session. After all, what's a trip to Singapore without a feast on its local delights?
Looking dapper in a sleek black suit and skinny-tie, the 1.82m-tall actor infamously known for his outstanding sense of fashion and eclectic choice of wardrobe (ranging from '80s-inspired-attires to feminine-styled suits) conceded to not being "into fashion" as much as he was before.
Throwing in a couple of styling tips for all aspiring fashionistas before the interview ended, he said, "Be comfortable in the clothes; they have to be well-made. You don't have to care about what people think when you dress up. And of course, try as many different kinds of clothing if possible."
Judging by the looks of his coral-coloured sleeveless top and tie-dye pants worn at the autograph session later in the evening, one thing's for sure folks, when you've got attitude, style comes naturally. Bring on the crazy leotards, outrageous suits and dorky outfits, Jang will rock 'em all the same. Jjang to the max!
